13-year-old boy on bicycle seriously hurt when struck by vehicle

On Friday, June 6, 2025, at approximately 4:29 p.m., the City of Fond du Lac Police Department and Fire Rescue responded to a reported vehicle-versus-bicyclist crash at the intersection of East Pioneer Road and Martin Avenue.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 13-year-old Fond du Lac boy was riding his bicycle westbound on the sidewalk. According to witness statements, the traffic light for southbound and northbound vehicles had turned green, and a delivery driver began to enter the intersection facing northbound. At that moment, the bicyclist collided with the front passenger side of the delivery van.

The impact resulted in significant trauma to the boy’s left leg. Fond du Lac Fire Rescue responded to the scene and provided immediate medical care. Due to the nature of the injuries, the decision was made to transport the patient by ThedaStar medical helicopter to a trauma center. The helicopter lifted off from the helipad at SSM Health – St. Agnes Hospital.

At this time, the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. The boy was conscious and breathing while being treated at the scene.  FDLPD Chief Aaron Goldstein said, “Our hearts go out to the young boy and his family and we are hopeful for a full recovery.  As summer begins and more children are outside riding bikes, this is a powerful reminder for parents to review safety rules with their kids, including wearing a helmet, walking bikes across busy streets, and making eye contact with drivers before crossing to name a few.”

The City of Fond du Lac Police Department was assisted by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office and City of Fond du Lac Fire Rescue.

The incident remains under active investigation by the City of Fond du Lac Police Department. No further details are available at this time.
