Boat Engine Catches Fire, But Crisis Averted

A few tense moments Monday afternoon had the FDL County Sheriff’s Department mobilizing their Rescue Boat crew. The call came in just after 4:00 pm with reports of a boat on fire near the lighthouse in Lakeside Park.

The 58-year old male operator of the boat appeared to have engine issues, and at one point had flames coming from the engine area. Deputies arrived on the scene to find no active flames and the boat was not taking on water. Boat patrol members are planning more follow up today with the operator.
