I-41 closed in both directions near Appleton for semi crash and fire

UPDATE— As of 3 PM, all lanes are back open.

UPDATE— Southbound I-41 has been re-opened. Northbound remains closed

A semi carrying cardboard bales that crashed on Interstate 41 on the northwest side of Appleton erupted into flames, blocking all northbound lanes of traffic Wednesday morning, May 29, 2024 at about 5:30 AM.

Fire officials needed the southbound lanes to be closed as well while their apparatus occupied some lanes on that side.

It was reported the driver of the semi made it out of the crash uninjured.

If traveling north of Appleton, a detour has been set up using the 441/10 bypass. Another alternate route would be to exit at WIS 96. Head east on WIS 96 to WIS 47. Head north on WIS 47 back to I-41 north.

KFIZ will update this story when lanes are opened back up.
