Connecting bridge of Lakeside Park East and West set to open in ribbon cutting ceremony

The City of Fond du Lac will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony this morning, Thursday, May 30, 2024, to officially open the new pedestrian bridge that now connects Lakeside Park East with Lakeside Park West.

The two parts of the park are separated by the Fond du Lac River as it empties into Lake Winnebago, and until now, to access one to the other, users had to drive or walk 1 1/2 miles out of the park to Scott Street and Lakeshore drive. Now, they are connected with the bridge and new walking trail.

The ribbon cutting ceremony runs from 10 to 10:45 AM today with remarks from public works and city leaders. Those wishing to attend should meet at the new parking lot just north of the pedestrian bridge.

Work on the bridge began in May of last year and was originally scheduled to open last fall, but construction was suspended for a period of time due to supply issues of parts of the bridge.
