Day 12 Sturgeon Report
DNR Sturgeon Biologist Ryan Koenigs writes:
Just one fish harvested on the Winnebago System today. Mayson Muche wins today’s perseverance award with his 102.7 pound, 71.6″ fish that he registered at Asylum Bay (fish would have been registered at Wendt’s had that station been open). Much to their surprise, this fish was a male! Coming into this season, I’m only aware of 9 male lake sturgeon 100 pounds or larger that have been harvested from the Winnebago System. The largest was 116.8 pounds (71.3″) and harvested by Matthew Judkins in 2010. So Mayson is in rare company with his fish, I’ve included a photo of Mayson and his father Paul Muche with the fish in today’s report (photo credit: Muche family photo). I spoke with Paul on the phone today, and it’s hard to tell who was more excited about the fish, the father or the son. Congratulations on a nice fish Mayson.
