DOJ to Issue Grants for Sexual Assault Victim Support
is one of ten counties in
that will be eligible for money from the Wisconsin Department of Justice for
the purpose of helping victims of sexual assault. The D-O-J will award
920-thousand dollars to those 10 counties through grants to sexual assault
victim support service providers.
Outagamie,
Rock, Sauk and Winnebago counties have the highest numbers of unsubmitted
sexual assault kits in the state. Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel says
in addition to direct support for victims of sexual assault, “the grant funds
will provide training to law enforcement, prosecutors and hospitals in these
counties”. The grants are part of the
state’s Sexual Assault Kit Initiative.
