Extreme heat set to bring in start of summer

Saturday, June 21, 2025, is the first full day of summer both on the calendar and in the forecast.
The first heat wave of the season starts Saturday with a heat advisory going into effect at noon. Strong winds out of the southwest will help usher in hot air and moisture that will drive up heat indices into the 105 degree range.
The National Weather Service says to Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on elderly relatives and neighbors.
They also go on to say to Take extra precautions when outside, by wearing lightweight and loose fitting clothing. and limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is warning drivers to be on the lookout for pavement buckling this weekend amid the high temperatures.
Pavement can buckle when temperatures quickly shift from cool to hot, causing pavement slabs to expand and build up pressure against each other.
The heat will last into Monday afternoon when a cold front is expected to sweep over the state possibly bringing severe storms to the area.
