Faulty lightbulb on fishing boat may have been reason for water rescue call on Lake Winnebago
Fond du Lac Fire and rescue were called to lakeside park last night after a residence on the lake that was watching the northern lights saw what he thought may have been a boat in distress.
According to the witness, they saw the light of a boat about a 1/4 mile out from the lighthouse disappear. Thinking the boat may have capsized, the person called the Fond du Lac County Communications Center.
Just as authorities were about to enter the lake with rescue boats, a fisherman called the communications center saying he saw their was a potential rescue of a boater in distress and he said he thinks that he may be the cause, as his light on his boat went out as he was on his way into shore.
Authorities saw no other signs of any other boat in distress so they packed up their operation with no further action.
