FDL Man Faces Attempted Homicide Charges after Beating Neighbor

A 44-year-old Fond du Lac man is facing multiple charges
after being accused of beating his neighbor. Cyrus Elworth was charged Tuesday
in Fond du Lac County Court with Attempted 1st Degree Intentional
Homicide, Substantial Battery, Intimidating a Victim, Disorderly Conduct and
Resisting or Obstructing an Officer. Police were called to a home on Merrill
Avenue the morning of May 25th, where the injured neighbor had
called for help. He was found with multiple head wounds, and showed police a wooden
handle that Elworth reportedly used to beat him.

The neighbor said Elworth had stolen items from him in the
past, and that the attack was unprovoked. He also told investigators that after
the attack, Elworth continually made threats toward him through the wall of
their apartment. Police arrested Elworth on June 13th at his apartment.
Elworth is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail on a $100,000 cash bond. Online
court records show a competency evaluation has been ordered for Elworth in the
case. He faces up to 80 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
