FDL PD Team Recognized For Domestic Violence Work
The Fond du Lac Police Department Domestic Violence Intervention Team (DVIT) was recently recognized with the 2013 Those Who Care About Domestic Violence Award. It was presented by the Fond du Lac County Coordinated Community Response group at the annual “Light Up the Night” against domestic violence event that was held at UW-Fond du Lac Prairie Theater. The unit was spearheaded and came to fruition through the efforts of Lt. David LeCaptain, who leads the unit. Officers with the unit in addition to their normal duties devote time each day to following up on domestic violence or domestic trouble calls occurring during the previous 24-48 hour time frame. The Officers work closely with such community partners as St. Agnes Domestic Violence, Solutions Center and Fond du Lac County CCR to ensure that victims of domestic violence have access to resources that can help them if they are in an abusive relationship and hold offenders accountable. Members of the DVIT unit include Lt. David LeCaptain, Lt. David Frohrip, Officers Kirean Weed, Nate Rucker, Kristina Meilahn, Zach Schultz, Matt Chevremont, Kristen Kachelmeier, Kari Gordee, Melissa Sprangers, Chris Deering, Ragan Pecore.
