14 people have been displaced after the apartment building they lived in suffered extensive damage in a fire yesterday morning, July 30, 2023.

At 10:06 AM, the Fond du Lac County Communications Center received multiple calls that the apartment building at N7352 Spring Street in the town of Taycheedah was on fire.

Upon arrival of Sheriff’s Deputies, they encountered heavy fire conditions coming from the second level of the eight unit building.

Arriving fire crews performed a primary search of the apartments and initially attempted to fight the fire from the inside, but due to the extent of damage from the fire, they retreated from the structure and began a defensive attack from the outside.

The entire building sustained heavy fire and water damage and is believed to be a total loss.

The fourteen people displaced due to the fire, received assistance at the scene from the American Red Cross. The Red Cross also says they provided food and water for the nearly 100 fire fighters on the scene.

Two other nearby buildings were evacuated until the fire was extinguished. Those buildings sustained minor heat damage to the siding but are still habitable.

Trucks and personnel from 20 fire departments assisted with the fire and no injuries were reported.

The fire is believed to have started on the second-floor, however the exact cause has yet to be determined. The fire remains under investigation by a fire investigator from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.
