Fond du Lac County announces they have captured stabbing suspect

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office announced yesterday, Sunday, March 24, 2024, that they had located and arrested the suspect wanted in the stabbing of a woman Friday afternoon on County Highway K just southeast of the City of Fond du Lac.

Through Investigative follow up, detectives were led to a private residence in rural Ozaukee County where it was believed the suspect may be hiding. Working with the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office, 50-year-old Fermin Teodoro Lopez-Mendoza was located and arrested near that residence at about 6:00 PM Saturday.

The sheriff’s office says Mendoza’s vehicle was located at a property in rural Calumet County and seized as evidence for forensic processing in the case.

At about 4:30 PM, Friday afternoon, the Fond du Lac County Communications Center received a call reporting the stabbing, and that the man involved left the scene before police arrived. The victim remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition.

Mendoza is being held at the Fond du Lac County Jail on a charge of first-degree attempted homicide. The sheriff’s office says additional charges may be added.
