Fond du Lac man convicted of 2022 murder of woman

A Fond du Lac man was convicted Friday, February 23, 2024, for the 2022 murder of a Fond du Lac woman. Gary Davis was on trial for First Degree Intentional Homicide, and hiding a corpse in the death of a woman who lived in the same building as himself, but a different unit.

The charges stem from the brutal slaying of Jacquelyn Rooney on November 9, 2022 in the City of Fond du Lac, where Rooney’s body was found covered in her locked apartment at 70 east Merrill Avenue with 14 stab wounds and multiple blunt force injuries to her head.

Investigation showed that Rooney and Davis had been in a relationship and upon interviewing other people in the apartment building, found they had been fighting and were breaking up.

The jury listened to five days of testimony and took approximately 40 minutes to reach their verdicts. Judge Douglas Edelstein revoked bond and ordered a pre-sentence investigation report. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

The first degree intentional homicide conviction comes with a life in prison sentence.
