Hydrant Flushing To Be Conducted In Fond du Lac

The City of Fond du Lac Water Utility Department is advising the residents of Fond du Lac that they will be conducting hydrant flushing starting Monday, April 17, 2023.

On Monday, they will be in the northeast section of the city, moving to the southeast on Tuesday and finishing up in the north and southwest on Wednesday and Thursday.

Hydrant flushing helps ensure water quality and helps avoid random bouts of rusty water if there is a high demand for water, caused by a major firefighting effort or water main break.

During the flushing of hydrants, some customers may notice reduced water pressure.

According to information obtained on the internet, hydrant flushing can make the water appear temporarily rusty/brown because the iron and mineral deposits in the water
get stirred up. The water is safe to use and consume during hydrant flushing, however it may stain laundry. Residents may wish to have laundry and dishes done before flushing takes place, and fill a reserve amount of water for personal use.

After flushing is complete, In most cases, water should run clear with just a few minutes of running cold water through your faucet.
