It’s Severe Weather Awareness Week. Do You Have A Plan?

Today, Monday, April 17, 2023, starts Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin.
Unseasonably warm weather has produced storms and 13 tornadoes already in Wisconsin this spring.
Last year the state was hit by 28 tornadoes, including a rare October outbreak in southeastern Wisconsin where 7 tornadoes touched down.
Wisconsin averages 23 tornadoes a year. Two years ago, Wisconsin had 41 confirmed tornadoes.
Wisconsin’s annual Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week runs today through Friday.
Wisconsin Emergency Management, along with the National Weather Service will conduct two statewide tornado drills on Thursday.
The first is at 1:45 in the afternoon and the second is at 6:45 in the evening. Two tests are done so people can practice what they would do during a tornado
warning at work and school as well as at home. If there’s a threat of severe weather on April 20, the drill will be pushed back to Friday. If there is a threat of severe weather again on Friday, the drill will be canceled.
Wisconsin Emergency Management encourages people to be prepared with apps and settings on their mobile devices to warn them of impending severe weather.
As always, KFIZ will always keep you ahead of the storm with watches, warnings and discussions leading up to severe weather threats in the Fond du Lac area.
