KFIZ High School Football Preview (Week 2)

Here are previews of Week 2 in the High School Football Season
Thursday
North Fond du Lac at Ripon
North Fond du Lac struggled in Week 1 losing to Blackhawk 52-8. They were only able to gain 153 yards on offense. They threw for 156 yards but the running game could not find any success against Blackhawks defense. The team combined for minus 3 yards on the ground. The only touchdown in the game for Fond du Lac came on a Zach Seidsclag pass to Jackson Goldapske. The Ripon Tigers did not fair much better in there opener losing to Nekoosa 40-18. There was a change over in the Ripon coaching staff in fall football camp. They compete in the East Central Wisconsin Conference. Ripon was only able to gain 150 yards passing on offense in week 1 with starting quarterback Parker Webb and 33 yards on the ground. On paper this will be a competitive matchup.
Friday
Fond du Lac at Franklin
Fond du Lac looks to bounce back after a crushing home loss on Friday night to one of the top teams in the state Sussex Hamilton 56-28. It doesn’t get any easy for the Cardinals this week at Franklin who also is also destined to make a deep run in the state playoffs after they beat Catholic Memorial 31-24. Fond du Lac’s defense looks to rebound this week after giving up over 600 yards of offense last week. Fond du Lac Coach Sam Plucker says that they learned a lot of lessons this week and the defense needs to play better. Fond du Lac’s running game was a bright spot rushing for over 200 yards led by Quarterback Connor Klapperich with 108 yards rushing and J.J. McGee with 104 yards on the ground. On the injury front Tanner Dalske will miss this week along with WR Rocky Duran who was injured in last weeks opener. Franklin is out of the Southeast Conference and are led by talented Quarterback Joseph Kalley who threw for 3 TD’s last week.

Madison Edgewood at Fond du Lac Springs
St. Mary’s Springs Academy got the revenge they were looking for last week when they went on the road to shutout Lake Country Lutheran 17-0. Spring lost two years ago at Lake Country Lutheran on running clock which left a bad taste in there mouth. Even though the emphasis for Springs was the passing game this fall the running game was the key to victory with Sam Lucas, Max Bauer, John Coon and JT Koenigs combining for 170 yards on the ground. Coach Hyland was happy with the performance of first year QB Max Bauer. The Ledgers defense only gave up 181 yards on defense in the shutout. Madison Edgewood is out of the Capitol Conference the same conference as Lake Country Lutheran. They had a dominating 34-0 win over Madison West in Week 1.
Chilton at Winnebago Lutheran Academy
WLA started the season on a high note with a 14-0 shutout over Kettle Moraine Lutheran. Quarterback Sam Loehr threw a TD pass to Wide Receiver Noah Gensler. Running Back Noah Shumacher rushed for 52 yards and a TD in the two scores for WLA. The story of of the game was WLA’s defense. Coach Loehr happy with the physicality of the senior lead defense as the linbackers flowed to the ball and the defensive line dominated the line of scrimmage. Chilton out of the Eastern Wisconsin Conference put up big numbers in there 46-27 victory over Crivitz. The running game was dominate led by Hudson Ludwig with 95 yards on the ground. 8 players carried the ball for Chilton over 200 yards on the ground in the victory.
Campbellsport at Kewaskum
Campbellsport had a dominating performance over Green Bay West in Week 1 47-8. Benjamin Timm started where he left off last season with 4 TD’s on the ground. Total he had 9 rushes for 148 yards. Evan Wilcox added a touchdown as the running game combined for 311 yards on the ground. Campbellsport head coach Todd Wondra has more size on the offensive line then he’s had in years past averaging about 200lbs per person which will help there run first offensive scheme. Kewaskum out of the East Central Conference fell to Baldwin/Woodville 54-21. QB Andrew Riechert threw for a touchdown last week. Out of the backfield Nicholas Deheck along with Dawson Stahl.
Laconia at Markesan
Laconia started the season with an impressive 28-7 victory over Wautoma. Dual threat QB Keaton Grade threw 2 TD’s and ran for another. Jake Rens chipped in 50 yards out of the backfield along with Colton Hagner adding 40 yards. A balanced attack by Laconia help them start the season 1-0. Markesan comes out of the Eastern Suburban Conference an lost there opening night matchup last week to Pardeeville 42-20. Running Back Tyler Mast ran for 157 yards in the loss for Markesan.
Edgerton at Lomira
Lomira opened up the season with a non-conference lost to Horicon/Hustisford 26-13. Connor Stears threw for 189 yards and rushed for 33 yards and two touchdowns. Edgerton comes from the Rock Valley Conference. They were beaten by Broadhead/Juda on opening night last week 46-7. Cole Lagner the starting QB for Edgerton through for 77 yards and a TD. 6 players were featured in the running game rushing for a combined 145 yards.
Wisconsin Heights at Oakfield (8-Player Football)
8-Player football begins this week with Oakfield hosting Wisconsin Heights. Oakfield plays in the Ridge & Valley 8-East Conference while Wisconsin Heights plays in Ridge & Valley 8-West Conference. 8-Player football is designed for smaller schools were enrollment is lower. It offers most of the same rules as the traditional 11-player football leagues with a few less players on each side of the ball. Depending on formations typically a few less offensive lineman and 1 less skill position player.
