KFIZ High School Football Preview (Week 4)

Fond du Lac at Kimberly

Fond du Lac (0-3, 0-1) travels to Kimberly (3-0, 1-0) to take on the #1 ranked team in the state of Wisconsin. The Cardinals come into the game after a near comeback victory against Appleton North last Thursday Night at Cardinal Stadium. Quarterback Connor Klapperich started the charge with a 66 yard TD run early in the 4th quarter Fond du Lac but could not overcome the deficit though to win the game. This week the Fond du Lac looks to start to get some players back who have been injured in the early weeks of the season. This will be the 4th straight week Fond du Lac will be playing against a team expected to make a deep playoff run or possible win a state title. Fond du Lac was the only team to hand the Papermakers a lost last year on there way to winning the Division 1 State Title. The strength for Kimberly on offense is the running game led by Gavin Tyson who is averaging 132 yards a game with 4 TD’s. There quarterback Carson Pendleton is averaging a 119 yards a game passing.

Flyway Conference

Fond du Lac Springs at  Laconia

St. Mary’s Springs Academy (3-0, 1-0) ranked #2 in WisSports.Net Division 6 rankings travels to Laconia (2-1, 0-1) to take on the Spartans. Springs defense continues to impress Coach Hyland early on this season. They pitched a shutout in game 1. Only allowed a field goal in game 2 of the season and last week an 85 yard TD pass. One offense the Ledgers had a solid passing attack with John Coon catching 5 passes for 135 yards. Coach Hyland talked this week about his continued work on fundamentals with the offensive line but said in general he is happy how the offense has progressed. After a 2-0 start to the season for Laconia Spartans feel to Lomira last week 40-16. Laconia gave up over 350 yards of total offense to Lomira. Laconia looks to rebound this week but knows it will be a tough task taking down Springs.

Lomira at Winnebago Lutheran

Winnebago Lutheran Academy (3-0, 1-0) moved into the WisSports.Net Top 10 rankings at #7 in Division 5 after a convincing 24-14 win over Mayville. Senior quarterback Sam Loehr had a nice game through the air throwing for 164 yards and 2 TD’s. WLA also saw contributions from Senior “Chop” Simmons who recovered two fumbles on defense and the special teams blocked a punt in the victory. Lomira (2-1, 1-0) gained 369 yards of total offense in their 40-16 victory over Laconia last Friday Night. This included 95 yards and two TD’s on the ground for Tyler Schaumberg and 93 yards on the ground and a TD by Connor Steers.

Mayville at  Campellsport

Campbellsport (3-0, 1-0) took care of the North Fond du Lac Orioles last Friday with a dominating 56-6 victory. The Cougars were up at halftime 42-6. Ben Timm continues to be one of the state’s top running back gaining 184 yards in the game. Timm is the 3rd leading rusher in the state with 644 total yards. He also leads the state in TD’s with 11. Colton Ruplinger chipped in 46 yards and a score along with Blake Heltemes had 27 yards. Mayville (1-2, 1-0) continued a slow start to the season losing to WLA 28-14. Mayville’s offense struggled against WLA turning the ball over 2 times and did not score until into the third quarter.

Omro at North Fond du Lac

North Fond du Lac (1-2, 0-1) was looking to start a short winning streak last week but ran into a very difficult Campbellsport team and lost to the Cougars. The Orioles gave up 322 yards on the ground in the game and struggled offensively to get the ball moving. Omro (1-2, 0-1) had one bright spot in the loss to Springs. Quarterback Keenan Rahn hooked up with Mason Huth for an 85 yard TD. Both the teams look to bounce back and get there first conference victory on Friday night.

Non Conference 8 Man Football

Oakfield at Kickapoo

Oakfield (2-0) went on the road last Thursday and beat Wonewoc/Weston 43-6. The Oaks had a solid passing attack with Quarterback Bailey Schepp throwing for 3 TD’s in the second quarter. Schepp also had a 3 yard TD run. Kickapoo is 1-1 on the season and led by lead running back Abe Clements averaging 100 yards on the ground a game.
