It was an early exit for Jesus Aguilar in the Home Run Derby Monday night at Nationals Park. The number one seed in the bracket was out-slugged by Rhys Hoskins of Philadelphia, with Hoskins putting up 17 home runs to Aguilar’s 12. Bryce Harper – the hometown hero – won the derby in walk off fashion over Kyle Schwarber of the Cubs, 19-18.
The All Star Game is tonight from Nationals Park in Washington D.C. and the starting pitchers will be the same from last year’s contest. Max Scherzer from the Nationals will take the hill for the National League while Boston’s Chris Sale will throw for the American League. It’s the third consecutive all-star start for Sale, and the third overall for Scherzer – who started the 2013 midsummer classic in Kansas City while he was a member of the Detroit Tigers. Tonight’s game begins at 7pm and is broadcast live on FOX TV.

College Football:
It’s award “watch list” season for the major college football awards, and a few Wisconsin Badgers are starting to get recognition. The Maxwell Football club released their watch lists for the Maxwell Award – which is given to the college football player of the year. – and the Bednarik Award – which is given to the top defensive player in college football. Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor was named to the Maxwell Award watch list, while linebacker TJ Edwards and safety D’Cota Dixon were named to the Bednarik Award watch list.
College Hoops:
The NCAA announced Monday future Final Four sites through 2026 for the Men’s Basketball Tournament. Host sites from 2019 to 2022 were previously announced. Houston will host in 2023, Phoenix/Glendale in 2024, San Antonio in 2025 and Indianapolis will host in 2026. This year’s Final Four will be held at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis – the first time the city has hosted a Final Four since 2001 at the Metrodome.
College Sports:
A total of 99 student athletes from Marian University have earned Scholar Athlete awards from the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference for the 2017-18 school year. Over 1,500 full-time student athletes across the NACC were named scholar athletes – which requires a 3.25 GPA or higher through the academic year. Marian Softball had 15 total athletes honored, while Sabre Women’s Soccer had 14. Marian’s baseball team had 12 student athletes honored to lead the men’s side.
