>>NCAA: All Fall College Championships Canceled
(Indianapolis, IN) — The NCAA says all fall college championships are canceled. The president of the organization, Mark Emmert, says there aren’t enough schools taking part because of the coronavirus pandemic. Emmert says if half of the schools aren’t playing, the championship wouldn’t be legitimate. It fell below 50 percent Thursday when the Big East announced it had decided to cancel fall sports.
>>WIAA: Pandemic Changes Approved
(Stevens Point, WI) — The WIAA gave approval to a pandemic overhaul to high school sports heading into the new school year. Plans include a fifth quarter in football, and extra innings in baseball and softball, to allow reserves a chance to get on the field. Teams eliminated from postseason playoffs would be allowed to schedule more games until the season officially ends. The changes are designed to give athletes the best chance to play. The board voted to approve the changes on Friday.
