Man who set Congressman’s office on fire found guilty
The man accused of setting fire to Glen Grothman’s office in Fond du Lac on January 19th of this year was found guilty yesterday in Fond du Lac County Circuit Court.
Then 19-year-old Caiden Stachowicz admitted to attempting to break into Grothman’s office in order to set it on fire. Unable to gain access, he resorted to lighting an electrical box in the back of the building on fire.
Prosecutors say Stachowicz was upset over Grothman’s vote in favor of the ban at the time of the social media site TikTok.
Stachowicz said he believed the Tik Tok shutdown violated his constitutional rights, and he wanted to make a stand by burning a government building.
The ban of the social media site only lasted 12 hours.
Stachowicz will be back in court March 5th for sentencing. He faces a maximum possible penalty of 25 years of initial confinement and 15 years of extended supervision.
