Milwaukee Breaks Homicide Record Third Year In A Row

The City of Milwaukee has broken its own homicide record for a 3rd straight year in 2022.

As of yesterday, there were 214 homicides in the city. Up 11% from 193 in 2021, and 190 in 2020.

According to the Milwaukee Police Departments crime data, while murders are up, overall crime is down 15% for 2022, partly due to 2021’s large numbers of crime.

In 2021, overall crime was up 27% from 2020’s numbers. Overall crime is still up 8% from 2020 in 2022.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel homicide database for the city, 90% of the homicides involved a gun. 82% of the victims were black. 35% were aged 18-29. 77% were male and 62% of the homicides are unsolved at this time. There were also 870 non fatal shootings in the city.
