New Head Of FDL Literacy Services

Juana Montes-Hernandez has been promoted to literacy coordinator at Fond du Lac Literacy Services; she had been serving as literacy administrative assistant since March 2014.

Fond du Lac Literacy Services is a non-profit organization that helps adults with the basic skills needed to learn and prosper in the 21st century: reading, writing, mathematics and learning English. Trained tutors provide free, one-on-one instruction.

“We are excited to have Juana in the position of coordinator,” said Literacy Board President Doris Grajkowski. “She understands the literacy needs of area adults and how Literacy Services can be of help. Her background and knowledge will serve the organization and the community well.”

Montes-Hernandez has a Human Resource Development certificate from Moraine Park Technical College and a Supervisory Leadership Certificate from the Fond du Lac Area Association of Commerce.

Grajkowski explains that Montes-Hernandez, who is bilingual, understands that learning a second language takes dedication and commitment.

“Juana is aware that adult students want a better future for themselves and their families and realizes that improved literacy will help them achieve that goal,” Grajkowski said. “She has knowledge of the community and understands the resources available to help adults.”

Montes-Hernandez and her husband live in rural Fond du Lac and are raising three children.
