Bernard William Vanness

Bernard William Vanness, 84, passed away at Edenbrook of Fond du Lac on October 19, 2022. He was born on Dec 9, 1937 on the family homestead in Thiry Daems, WI to the late William “Bill” and Josie (Soquet) Vanness.

Bernard grew up on his family’s farm before graduating from Algoma High School in Algoma, WI. He served in the United States Navy for two years.

He drove for the FDL Cab Co while employed at Fred Rueping Leather Co and then Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum both in Fond du Lac, WI.

Bernie was an avid race fan, following NASCAR for many years and a regular at the local racetracks, including circle track and drag racing.

He is survived by his son Quay (Trudy) Vanness; grandchildren Brok Davis, Jade, Selah, Faith and Isaiah Vanness; daughters Becky and Brenda; his sister Lillian (John) Buth; stepchildren Brad Gosse, Kathie Holloman, Jeff Gosse, Kim (Richard) Sohn, Julie (Bruce) Schraven, Tracey Scheuers and Travis Gosse; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, ex-wife and lifetime friend Elaine Vanness, and special friend Susie Phillips.

SERVICES: Bernie’s family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, October 27, 2022 for time of visitation from 4:00 PM to 4:45 PM at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division Street, Fond du Lac. A Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 PM. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be in Calvary Mausoleum.
