Harald M. Ness, Jr.
Harald M. Ness, Jr., 89, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 28, 2021, with his wife Carol by his side.
Harald was born on May 26, 1932, to Harald and Edna Ness in Superior, WI. He served his country in the United States Air Force, rising to the rank of Captain.
He graduated from Central High School in Superior, WI in 1950. Following high school, Harald earned his bachelor degree at Wisconsin State College in Superior, WI. He then attended University of Wisconsin Madison for his graduate Meteorology training in conjunction with his Air Force service. He later obtained a Master of Arts Degree from Central Michigan University.
Following his Air Force service, he began teaching high school mathematics in Hayward, WI and later in Kohler, WI. It was in Kohler that Harald met his wife of 59 years, Carol Grage. They were married in Kohler on June 9, 1962.
He then began teaching mathematics at the University of Wisconsin Center- Fond du Lac. He later served as the mathematics department chairman for the University of Wisconsin Center System. Following his retirement, he continued to teach at the UW-FDL, Marian College and Ripon College, as well as other institutions in the community.
Harald is survived by his wife, Carol Ness; sons, Eric (Maura Kearns) Ness and Brent (Katie) Ness; grandchildren, Jessica Ness (Ryan Wegener), Gillian Ness and Rory Ness; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy; and brothers, Richard and Lloyd “Bud” Ness.
In keeping with Harald’s wishes, a private family service will be held.
