Janet Mary (Yungwirth) Switlick
Janet Mary (Yungwirth) Switlick, after a spirited battle with cancer, left this world on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 from Hospice Home of Hope to join God’s choir of angels and saints in heaven. We will always remember Janet’s beautiful smile, love and dedication to family, and the joy and unconditional support she shared with us all.
Janet was born on November 7, 1937 to John and Veronica (Mayer) Yungwirth, and was the youngest of ten children in the family. Growing up in Fond du Lac, she attended St. Mary’s Grade School and graduated from St. Mary’s Springs Academy.
In her young adult years, Janet moved to Madison WI where she worked as an Administrative Assistant for Oscar Mayer Foods. In early 1971, she achieved the rating of Certified Professional Secretary, and later that year was awarded Secretary of the Year for the Madison Chapter of the National Secretaries Association. After 30 years, Janet retired from Oscar Mayer in 1992. While in Madison, Janet met Patrick Switlick, and they were married on October 19, 1984 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Madison. In 1995, they returned to Fond du Lac to enjoy their retiree years together and to be closer to Janet’s family.
Janet enjoyed golfing, bowling, singing, and going up to St. Germaine every summer with family and friends. Other travels included a choir trip to Europe in 1987, and many road trips to Lake Havasu, AZ. Janet was an avid fan of the Milwaukee Brewers, Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers. She sang in the St. Mary’s Church choir for years, and we will always cherish the memory of Janet’s beautiful voice singing the “Ave Maria.”
Janet is survived by her husband Patrick Switlick; sisters, Virginia (Harold) Bond, Beatrice Pilkenton and Anita Thompson; brothers, Jerome Yungwirth and Thomas (Agnes) Yungwirth; and sisters-in-law, Veronica and Anne Yungwirth.
