John V. Schmitz

John V. Schmitz, 74, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Eden Vista in Fond du Lac. He was born December 27, 1947 to Alvin and Martina (Casper) Schmitz in Fond du Lac, WI.

John graduated from St. Mary’s Springs in 1966. He worked for C.D. Smith Construction as a cement finisher/laborer for 35 years. John served in the US Army in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969.

John enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

John is survived by his daughters, Shelly Toston and Angie (Joe) Paul; his son, Jeremy (Peggy) Schmitz; eight grandchildren, Devan and Tori Brown, Braydon Toston, Henry and George Paul, Hazel, Ella and Madelyn Schmitz; two great grandchildren, Ana Brown and Alex Jaime.

He is further survived by his siblings, Patty (Arlyn) Julka, Mike (Sue) Schmitz, Bill (Dawn) Schmitz, Anne (Andy) Hemauer, Andy (Robin) Schmitz and Lori Rieder (special friend Todd Osier); sister-in-law, Sue Schmitz; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Joe Schmitz; his nephews, Nathan, Kyle and Lucas Hemauer and his niece, Tina Stephanie.

SERVICES: John’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 for visitation from 4:00 PM to 5:45 PM at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division Street in Fond du Lac. A funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM. Military Honors will be held at the funeral home. Private burial will take place in St. John the Baptist Cemetery-Johnsburg.

Memorials may be directed to the family for future donations to local veteran funds.
