Kathleen Mary Shawley

Kathleen Mary Shawley (Czarnetzki), 78, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on January 3rd, 2023.  Kathy fought an eight-year battle with cancer.  She was cared for by her four daughters, her “Four Queens”, along with in home hospice care. Her feisty attitude kept her going for the last eight years, and she fought hard until the end like only “Sassy Pants” could.

Kathy was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin on August 9th, 1944 to Muriel (Nelson) Czarnetzki and Delroy “Bud” Czarnetzki.  She grew up in La Crescent, Minnesota and graduated from La Crosse Logan High School.  On September 28, 1963 she married Wayne Charles Shawley, the love of her life.  She worked at Wells Manufacturing before moving to Mercury Marine in 1993, where she worked until retirement in 2004.

Kathy loved spending time tending to her flowers, yard and koi pond.  She was happiest with a fishing pole in her hand and peeling hard-boiled eggs for good luck. She devoted all of her time to her family, especially her grandchildren.  You could always find her in the gym, at the football field, or at the ball diamond (with a burnt brat) attending the sporting events of her children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren.

Kathy is survived by her four daughters: Melissa (David) Magnussen of Horicon, WI, Jodi Greenwood (Anthony) of Midland, NC, Teisha Shawley (Tom) of North Fond du Lac, WI, and Dee Ann (Richard) Schmidt of Fond du Lac, WI.  Her grandchildren: Deric (Sarah) Magnussen, Lucas (Crystal) Magnussen, Matthew Magnussen (Alexandria), Danielle and Mckayla Greenwood, Sean (Ashley) Kok, Karissa Schwantes, Vanessa and Brady Schmidt, and her seven great-grandchildren.  As well as: Brother, Bruce (Karen) Czarnetzki, Sister in laws Kathleen Czarnetzki and Rosemary (Jim) Burke, Brother-in-law Glen Buege, several nieces and nephews, her best friend Stephanie, and many other friends whom she loved dearly.

Kathy was proceeded in death by her parents Delroy and Muriel Czarnetzki, husband Wayne Charles Shawley, brother Jon Czarnetzki, in-laws Charles and Adeline Shawley, sister-in-laws Shirley (Duwayne) Tischer, Kate Buege, and Elaine (Bill) Johnston and brother-in-law Flip Wolf.

The family of Kathleen Shawley would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to hospice, especially Sarah and Amanda for their comfort, care, support and love, not only for our mom, but our entire family.

Kathy’s family invites relatives and friends for a time of visitation at Zacherl Funeral Home on Sunday, January 8, 2023 from 1:00 to 2:45 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Kathy will be laid to rest privately next to her husband, Wayne, in Rienzi Cemetery.
