Kurt Michael Kuzulka

Kurt Michael Kuzulka, 64, of Waupun, passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at UW Madison Hospital awaiting a lung transplant due to Interstitial Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Kurt was born February 28, 1949 in Hustisford, WI the son of Nicolai and Opal Deutsch Kuzulka.  Kurt attended Waupun schools, graduating from Waupun High School in 1967.  He continued his education at the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in education.  On November 7, 1970 he married Susan Staehling at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waupun where he continued his membership, sharing and inspiring others with his gift of musical talent.

In the mid sixties, at the age of 16, Kurt started his musical career with the band “The Warlords” and then progressed to other bands throughout his life including “Bare Fat”, “The What Four”, “Buzz Band”, “Whiz Kids”, “Pop Music”, several other bands and most recently “Rings”.  Kurt was also an accomplished solo acoustic guitar artist and performed throughout Wisconsin putting himself through college and supporting his family solely playing music for over ten years. Besides working as a full-time musician for much of his life, he was also a self-employed painter.  Kurt was a hard working man who put forth his best effort in everything he did. He enjoyed his past six years working with his son Kevin starting and growing SQ Powder Coating.  Throughout Kurt’s life he found happiness spending time with his family and having his guitar at hand. It was the simple things in life that brought joy to Kurt.  Spending time outdoors, enjoying food with family, walking dogs, and occasional vacations with his children brought true meaning to his life.  Kurt’s musical, humorous, and incredible personality will be missed, but he will always be loved by many.

Kurt is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susan Kuzulka of Waupun; his sons, Kevin Kuzulka of Fox Lake and Kurt (Julianna) Kuzulka of Howards Grove; a son-in-law, Kreg DeBoer of Brandon; eight grandchildren, Kyle, Katelyn and Klaire DeBoer, Karson, Karalyn, and Keaton Kuzulka, and Koralyn and Kurt James Kuzulka; his mother, Opal Kuzulka of Waupun; his brother, Nick (Judy) Kuzulka of Waupun; along with other relatives and friends. 

Kurt was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen DeBoer, and his father, Nicolai Kuzulka.

Funeral services for Kurt Kuzulka will be held Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waupun with Rev. Rolf Amundsen officiating.  Burial will follow at Wedges Prairie Cemetery.  Friends and relatives of Kurt Kuzulka may call on the family on Friday evening from 4-8 p.m. at the Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun and Saturday at church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
