Lois A. Davies

Lois A. Davies, 86, of Malone, WI passed peacefully on Sunday, August 28, 2022, at Agnesian Hospice Home of Hope surrounded by family.

She was born on May 1, 1936, in Fond du Lac, daughter of Leo “Jim” and Mary (Trescott) Nett.

Lois attended St. Peter’s grade school in Malone and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1954.

In her youth she enjoyed summer vacations up North with her brother and grandparents.

On October 19, 1957, she married Richard “Dick” Davies at St. Mary’s Church, Fond du Lac. Lois was a member of the Holy Family Parish.

She attended University of Oshkosh and received a bachelor’s degree in Education 1955.

Dick and Lois had five children, Jim, John, Rick, Laurie, and Mary.

While raising their family Lois attended Marion College and received her master’s degree in Education 1970.

She began her teaching career at Luco Elementary School in 1956, took some time off to start her family and began substitute teaching from 1966-69. She also taught at Presentation Elementary School in North Fond du Lac from 1969-70, St. Patrick’s Elementary School for a couple of years and finished her career teaching at St. Joseph Elementary School in 1996. Upon retirement she continued to substitute teach until she was 80 years young.

“She loved teaching children” especially her own.

She was a kidney transplant recipient 23 years ago.

Lois had a zest to travel and made sure that the family took an annual summer vacation. Vacations included attending simple and fun Davies family reunions at lake cottages including several trips across the United States. One of her favorite trips was visiting Glacier National Park in Montana.

She loved watching her children and grandchildren participating in sporting events.

She volunteered at Loaves & Fishes, Salvation Army and has been involved with assisting and serving at St. Peters Church.

From Spring-Fall you could always find her tending to her numerous gardens. She also enjoyed making cards, stamping and sending inspirational sentiments to family and friends.

In addition to the above passions, she spent much time with close friends going to lunch, movies, playing cards, or relaxing reading and making puzzles.

Survivors include her two sons, Jim (Pam) Davies of San Diego, CA, John (Cathy) Davies of Danville, CA, and two daughters, Laurie (Neil) Skewes of Laguna Niguel, CA, and Mary Davies of Malone; ten grandchildren, Joseph, Jordan, Taylor, Emily, Collin, Daniel, Bobby, Krista, Brennan, and James; five great- grandchildren, Anna, Jaxon, Ava, Michael, Grayson; and former daughter-in-law Nancy Davies. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard “Dick” Davies; son, Rick Davies and brother, David Nett.

Visitation: The family welcomes relatives and friends for a time of visitation at Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division Street, Fond du Lac, on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. At 7:00 P.M. there will be a special time of remembrance and sharing at the funeral home.

A second time of visitation will be held prior to the Mass at Holy Family Catholic Church, located at 271 Fourth Street Way, Fond du Lac, on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 from 9:00 to 10:45 A.M.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery.

The family is grateful to all the employees and volunteers of St. Agnes Hospice Hope program.
