Richard “Dick” Oman
Richard “Dick” Oman was born December 2, 1939 to Theodore and Mary Oman. He was the second of their three children. A local kid, he was a graduate of North Fond du Lac High School (Class of ’58). Dick attended the University of Wisconsin – Platteville for college where he played basketball. Dick went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army. After completing his time in the Army, Dick played baseball with the Fond du Lac Red Sox Baseball Club. He married his beloved wife, Marlene (Maney), on February 13, 1965.
Dick spent his more than 35-year career as a railroad engineer for the Soo Line (CP Railroad). When not working, Dick was a man of many great talents and interests. He was a gifted musician, singing in his church choir, and even writing, performing, and recording his own music. He was also an avid sports fan. Most days you would find Dick on the golf course or watching one of his favorite Wisconsin sports teams.
Dick was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather, who always kept his family and friends first in his heart. He enjoyed many family gatherings with friends and relatives. His quick wit and sense of humor were enjoyed by many who knew him. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene (Maney) Oman of Fond du Lac, daughter Kelly (Brian Bahls) Lilja of Fond du Lac, daughter Jennifer (Andrew) Thomas of Minneapolis, and seven grandchildren, Clayton Zwicker, Tanya (Alisha) Schmidt, Rachel Zwicker, Olivia (Cory) Logterman, Ashley (Jimmy Ray Runnels) Zwicker, Blake Thomas, and Samuel Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Mary Oman, sister, June, brother, Gary, his daughter, Kristin Zwicker, and great-grandchild, Owen Richard Runnels.
