Richard “Dickie” Charles Polzean

Richard “Dickie” Charles Polzean passed peacefully on January 9, 2026. He was born January 3, 1948 in Fond du Lac to the late Francis and Bernice (Harrison) Polzean.

42 years ago, Dickie wandered into The Pressbox and at closing would help Vicki do whatever was asked of him. Repeating day after day, would show up and wipe tables, put up chairs, sweep the bar until he earned the opportunity to be part of the family. Bob and Vicki rewarded Dick with a place to live and a job of cleaning the bar and watering the sand volleyball courts. Dickie lived his best life above the bar for the next 40 years and customers to this day ask about him or tell stories of their encounters from the past 4 decades.

Dick was regarded as a kind hearted man and had a laugh that would take over the room. He rarely missed a chance to say good-bye as customers left and always saved an extra squeeze goodbye to all the lucky ladies that spent time at the bar.

There is no doubt in our mind that Dickie is riding his bike going to gods endless rummage sales, riding off with a huge smile knowing that he got a hat or tools or an old rake at half the price on the sticker.

Survivors include three nieces: Shari Nett, Sarah (Cody) Zupke and Jamie (Eric) Orr, and their children and sister-in-law Bobbie Jo Polzean.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jim and Ron Polzean, sisters, Cheryl Braford, Cynthia Braford and Kathy Polzean and special friend Ethel Lohse.

On Saturday, January 17th from 1:00 to 4:00 pm The Press Box will be hosting a celebration of life. Please stop by and share a story or memory in Dickie’s honor and of course there will be food, considering it was Dickie’s favorite thing in life.
