Rochelle A. Mayr
Rochelle “Rocki” Ann Mayr,
nee Smith, 80, of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, died on June 28, 2019, following a
brief illness. She was born in Beaver
Dam, Wisconsin, on August 22, 1938, the first of four children of Pearl and
Wilber Smith. Rocki graduated from Fox
Lake High School in 1956. She graduated
from St. Agnes School of Nursing in 1959 and obtained a Bachelor of Nursing Degree
in 1983.
Rocki married Bob Mayr on
August 27, 1960, in Fox Lake, Wisconsin.
They made their home in Beaver Dam for many years. She and Bob were
long-time members of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and were very active in the
Knights of Columbus. Rocki was also a
member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 65 years.
Rocki had a long career in
the nursing field, retiring as a correctional nurse from Fox Lake Correctional
Institution. There, she was instrumental
in developing infection control measures when HIV/AIDS first became a major
challenge.
In 2014 Rocki moved to
Fond du Lac, where she was a beloved member of a warm community of friends. She
was a friend of Bill W., and served the AA community in several volunteer
capacities. She was very social and enjoyed entertaining. She loved to travel and made many trips abroad
after she retired. Rocki enjoyed playing
cards, especially bridge, and loved to read.
Rocki is survived by her
brother, Lonnie (Linda) Smith; her sister, Carleen (Tom) Tigner; her children,
Sue (Tim) Griffin, Todd (Brenda) Mayr, Craig (Katrina) Mayr and Jason (Lorelyn)
Mayr; her grandchildren, Meghan Griffin, Aidan Mayr, Samantha Mayr, Jack Mayr,
Josh Steger, and Faith (Jasen) Bullock; other relatives and many friends.
Rocki was preceded in
death by her husband, her parents, her sister Bernadette Smith and her
daughter-in-law Sara Mayr.
SERVICES: A memorial
service for Rocki Mayr will be held on Saturday AUGUST 3, 2019 at 1:00 PM at
Zacherl Funeral Home, 875 E. Division Street, Fond du Lac, WI 54935. A time for
family and friends to gather will be from 11:00 AM until the time of service.
