Samuel J. Ciancio
Samuel J. Ciancio, age 89, of Kiel, died on Friday, August 1, 2014 at Willowdale
Health & Rehab in New Holstein. He was born August 3, 1924 in Franklin Park,
IL, son of the late Frank & Caroline (Barzano) Ciancio. Sam served his
country in the United States Army at the tail end of WWII; following his
discharge, he married Dorothy Maser on May 2, 1953 at St. Gertrude’s in Franklin
Park, IL. Through his life, he worked at International Harvestor as a valve seat
grinder until his retirement in 1981. It was in 1983 that he and Dorothy moved
to Kiel where they built their house and laid down roots. He was a member of Ss.
Peter and Paul Catholic Church, volunteered 20 years of managing the Bishop’s
Appeal, and the Kiel Kiwanis Club where he helped run the food stand at Road
America. Sam was very work driven, often times working two jobs even in
retirement. As a sports fan, he did always take time to enjoy watching his
beloved Cubs and Blackhawks. Life with Sam was never boring, that’s for sure.
His feisty, but fair demeanor will be cherished by all those who loved him and
everyone will remember how his entire world changed when his grandchildren
arrived. Those moments spent with his grandchildren offered Sam an opportunity
to share more of his pranks with more people he loved. Survivors include his
wife of 61 years: Dorothy; children: Janet (John) Warnecke, Samuel (Carol)
Ciancio, Diana (Robert) Van Dinther; grandchildren: Todd (Maria) Serrano,
Rachael (Ronnie) Nemetz, Terry Ciancio, Timothy Ciancio, Joseph Ciancio, Robert
(Stephanie) Van Dinther, Jr., Tiffany (Jason) Iannantuoni; great grandchildren:
Tyler, Kylee, Gabriel, Nathaniel, Allison, Eric, Daschel, Astrid, Makayla,
Andrew, Bella and another to be arriving soon; 2 sisters: Connie Bunn, Rose
(Larry) Viola; and a sister-in-law: Irene Ciancio. He is further survived by
nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his
parents; and 2 brothers: Michael & Joseph Ciancio. Funeral service will be
at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church
(423 Fremont St.) in Kiel. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Friends
may call at the church from 10:00 am until 12:45 pm on Tuesday, August 5, 2014.
