Sister Mary Catherine Younger, CSA
Sister Mary Catherine Younger, CSA,
formerly known as Sister Henrietta, died peacefully on January 18, 2017, at
Nazareth Center in Fond du Lac, WI.
Mary
Catherine was born in St. Peter, KS, on May 12, 1931, to Leo Younger and
Christine Gerber Younger. When Mary
Catherine was very young the family moved to Colorado. She considered herself as a Coloradoan. Mary Catherine was one of fourteen
children.
Sister Mary
Catherine professed vows in the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes on August
15, 1952. She received a Certificate as
a Food Service Director from Fontbonne College, Clayton, MO, and a Certificate
in the Nutritional Care of the Elderly from the University of Wisconsin Science
Center. Sister Mary Catherine ministered
throughout her life in food services at St. Joseph Orphanage in Baraga, MI, and
in Fond du Lac, WI at St. Mary’s Springs Academy, St. Agnes Convent, and Boyle
Apostolic Center. Sister delighted many
with her flair for creating the beautiful whether she was decorating cakes,
designing her own delicate greeting cards, setting a festive table, or
preparing attractive dishes for daily meals or special occasions.
Sister Mary
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents Leo Younger and Christine Gerber
Younger; two infant brothers John Younger and Clarence Younger; her brothers
Walter Younger, Henry Younger, Leo Younger and Butchie Younger; her sisters
Helen Kreutzer (Dan) and Viola Miller (Bob).
Sister is
survived by her sisters Josephine Dreiling, Lambertine Miller, Lucille Peeples
(Billy); brothers Clarence Younger (Dian) and Derell Younger (Caroline);
sisters-in-law Viola Younger and Theresa Younger; numerous nieces and nephews;
and the Sisters of St. Agnes, with whom she lived, prayed and ministered.
A Mass of
Christian Burial with the cremains present will be on January 21, 2017, at 2:00
p.m., in St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett Street, Fond du Lac, WI. The presider will be Father Ken Smits,
Capuchin. Burial will take place at a
later date at St. Joseph Springs Cemetery.
