Officer finds crack cocaine near children in stopped vehicle

A Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputy has been credited with removing two children from a potentially dangerous situation during a traffic stop last week.

The deputy stopped a vehicle for speeding on I41, and the 35-year-old Oshkosh man driving was found to be on probation for manufacture/delivery of cocaine and had a lengthy criminal history of drug related convictions.

The deputy saw some drug paraphernalia in the car which gave him the ability to search the vehicle. The officer found five ounces of crack cocaine that was located near two children that were also in the car. A jar of marijuana and significant amount of cash was also located, plus the driver was found to be under the influence.

The driver was arrested for possession with intent to deliver cocaine, possession of THC 2nd+ offense, contributing to neglect of child – exposure to drugs, and operating while intoxicated 1st offense with an enhancer for having a passenger under 16. The two children were released to the custody of a responsible adult.
