Oshkosh man who pointed gun at girlfriend’s children sentenced to nine years in prison

An Oshkosh man who held police in an armed standoff for almost 6 hours last year received a nine year prison sentence yesterday, being convicted of a felon in possession of a firearm.

35-year-old Douglas Murphy repeatedly pointed a handgun at several children inside a residence in downtown Oshkosh and also used the gun to “pistol whip” his girlfriend, the mother of the children, causing an open wound on her head.

The children called 911, which led to the standoff with law enforcement, who formed a perimeter outside the residence. At around 6 AM, the City of Oshkosh Police Department SWAT Team entered the residence and arrested Murphy.

Murphy is is no stranger to the court system, being charged with felonies in Waukesha, Manitowoc, and Winnebago Counties.
