Overnight Attic Fire In Local Apartment Complex Displaces Three

The Fond du Lac Fire Rescue Department received a call on a non-emergency phone line to look at a bathroom exhaust fan in an apartment at 234 south National Avenue in the early morning hours of Monday, July 17, 2023.

The occupant stated there had been a small fire in the fan earlier in the evening that he had extinguished but now could smell what seemed like wires burning and wanted the fire department to check it out.

On arrival, fire crews found fire in the attic and walls of the bathroom and crews immediately called for an upgraded assignment for a working structure fire.

Fire crews immediately pulled the fire alarm and began working to extinguish the fire. All residents were evacuated from the structure by Fire-Rescue personnel with help from the Fond du Lac Police department.

The Fire was brought under control within 20 minutes while crews remained on scene to overhaul the scene and investigate the cause of the fire.

Residents were allowed back into all of the units with the exception of the two units damaged by the fire. Three residents of those two apartments were displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross and building management. There were no injuries reported due to the fire.

Fond du Lac Fire Rescue would like to ask the public to call 911 when they have a fire in their home no matter how small, so it can be looked at and be sure any fire is completely extinguished.
