Rick Olig Retires From FDL County Sheriffs Dept With Traditional Ramp Walk
Captain Rick Olig completed the transition from 35 year veteran of the Fond du Lac Sheriff’s Department back to private citizen with a couple steps onto Western Avenue Thursday afternoon. It came at the conclusion of the traditional ramp walk reserved for long-time deputies who are retiring. Sheriff Mick Fink found it tough to look Olig in the eyes and give him one more salute for his service. He commended Olig for his 35 years of service and snapped a perfect salute. Olig shed a few tears during the ceremony. Afterwards he talked about retiring and the life that is ahead from him. He says he will miss the people, but it is time to move on to another career. He says retirement he hears is good and he also hears travel is good. Law Enforcement officers from across the City and County, Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue, and other City and County employees were among those who attended. More importantly Olig was surrounded by his family and friends.
There were a lot of hugs.
One last story.
The Sheriff’s Honor Guard paved the way.
