Seeding Complete for WIAA State Hockey, GBB Sectionals
The WIAA has announced the seeding for the next round of the postseason in both Boys Hockey and Girls Basketball.
In Boys Hockey, the State Semifinals are up next after Sectional Champions were crowned over the weekend.
In Division Two, that includes the defending State Champion St. Mary’s Springs Ledgers, who won their sectional with a 4-0 victory over Oregon on Saturday night. It should come as no surprise then, that the defending champs were given the #1-seed in Division Two state bracket and will host one of the two State Semifinals this week. The top-seeded Ledgers will host fourth-seeded Somerset Thursday at the Blue Line Family Ice Center in Fond du Lac, with game time set for 7 PM.
Elsewhere in D-2, #2-seed Superior will host #3-seed Lakeland in the other semifinal. That game will be played at Spooner Thursday night at 7 PM. Winners of the two semifinals will play for the Division Two state championship Saturday at 9:30 AM in Wisconsin Rapids.

In Girls Basketball, the Winnebago Lutheran Vikings are moving on to sectionals after claiming their Division Three Regional Championship this weekend. WLA clinched the regional title with a dominant performance against St. Mary’s Springs on Saturday night, winning 67-28 on their home floor.
The 21-0 Vikings, however, will have to hit the road to continue their playoff run, as they received the #3 seed in the sectional and will play at #2 seed Oostburg on Thursday.
The sectional the Vikings find themselves in is easily one of the toughest in the state, as it features three teams ranked in the top-10 of the most recent WisSports.net Coaches Poll. WLA is the highest-ranked of those teams, sitting at #2 in the Week 10 poll. Howards Grove, who received the #1 seed in the sectional, is ranked #3 in the state, while Oostburg is ranked #9. Howards Grove enters the sectionals with a 22-1 record, while Oostburg is 22-3.
Winners of Thursday’s Sectional Semifinals will play in the Sectional Final Saturday, with a trip to state on the line.
