Marquette In Elite Eight

Buzz Williams’ Marquette Golden Eagles were in control of their Sweet 16 matchup from the opening tip to the final buzzer beating Miami 71-61. The Golden Eagles led by as many as 21 points in the 2nd half as they cruised into the East Regional Final on Saturday.  Jamil Wilson scored 16 points while DeVante Gardner and Vander Blue each added 14 in the win.  Marquette will play Syracuse for the right to go to the Final Four on Saturday afternoon.  The Orange knocked off Tom Crean and #1 seed Indiana 61-50.  That game will tip right around 3:30pm on Saturday.

 

NCAA Tournament

In the West Region last night #2 seed Ohio State got a three-pointer from LaQuinton Ross with 2 seconds left to knock out #6 Arizona 73-70.  The Buckeyes will face #9 seed Wichita State who dumped #13 LaSalle 72-58.  Tonight in the Midwest Regional, #1 Louisiville takes on #12 Oregon and #2 Duke plays #3 Michigan State.  In the South Region, #1 Kansas and #4 Michigan will play followed by #3 Florida and #15 Florida Gulf Coast.

 

College Coaching

UCLA is looking for a new men’s basketball coach, after being denied by VCU’s Shaka Smart, reports say they are coming hard after Butler’s Brad Stevens.  Texas Tech is looking to interview former Minnesota coach Tubby Smith.  Northwestern has named Duke Associate Head Coach Chris Collins as their new head coach.

 

Bucks Win

The Milwaukee Bucks took down the LA Lakers 113-103 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on Thursday night.  Larry Sanders had 21 points and 13 rebounds in the win while Brandon Jennings added 20 and Monta Ellis 18.  Milwaukee will host Oklahoma City on Saturday night.

 

Brewers Baseball

Kyle Lohse pitched 3 and 2/3 innings giving up 1 run on four hits in his Brewers debut on Thursday in a 6-2 win over the Rockies.  Yuniesky Betancourt went 3×4 with a double, home run and 2 RBI in the win.   The Brewers will play the first of two exhibition games against the White Sox at Miller Park tonight. Coverage begins at 7pm on KFIZ.

 

Badger Hockey

The Badger men’s hockey team will play #1 seed UMass-Lowell in the first round of the NCAA Men’s Hockey Tournament this afternoon.  They puck is scheduled to drop at 3:30pm in New Hampshire.

Baseball (vs. Wisconsin Lutheran) and Softball (vs. MBBC) originally scheduled for noon on Saturday, March 30, has been postponed due to poor field conditions from the lingering snow. Both dates have been rescheduled with baseball set for an April 9 meeting at 1 p.m. and softball an April 8 match-up at 3 p.m.
