The WIAA released tournament brackets for boys basketball in all five divisions on Sunday afternoon.
In Division One, the Fond du Lac boys earned a #5 seed in its sectional and will host #12 seed Sheboygan South on Friday. March 3rd in a regional semifinal game.
In Division 3,
#9 Omro at #8 Lomira – 2/28, 7pm. Winner faces #1 Ripon on 3/3
#12 St. Lawrence Seminary at #5 Berlin – 2/28, 7pm
#13 North Fond du Lac at #4 Columbus – 2/28, 7pm
–Winners play each other on 3/3
In the same sectional,
#3 seed Campbellsport will play the winner of #6 Winneconne vs. #11 Poynette on 3/3
#2 seed Waupun will play the winner of #7 Watertown Luther Prep and #10 Mayville on 3/3
Also in D-3 New Holstein earned a #1 seed in its sectional and will host the winner of #9 Sheboygan Falls vs. #8 Cedar Grove-Belgium on March 3rd Chilton earned a #13 seed and will travel to #4 Sturgeon Bay on Tuesday, February 28th.
In Division 4,
#9 Random Lake at #8 Winnebago Lutheran – 2/28, 7pm. Winner plays #1 Laconia on 3/3
#2 St Mary’s Springs will host the winner of #7 Oshkosh Lourdes vs. #10 Horicon on 3/3
In Division 5,
#15 Central Wisconsin Christian at #2 Pecatonica – 2/28, 7pm
#9 Oakfield at #8 Randolph – 2/28, 7pm.
Men’s College Basketball:
Big Ten:
Wisconsin 71, Maryland 60
Nigel Hayes scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Badgers defeated Maryland at the Kohl Center to snap a two game losing skid. Ethan Happ added 20 points as the Badgers overcame a 5 point deficit at the half to move back into a first place tie with Purdue atop the Big Ten. Wisconsin travels to Ohio State on Thursday.
Minnesota 83, Michigan 78 (OT)
Pelicans center Anthony Davis set an NBA All-Star game scoring record while helping the Western Conference earn a 192-182 win over the East at New Orleans. Davis poured in 52 to shatter the previous mark of 42 set by Wilt Chamberlain in 1962. Thunder guard Russell Westbrook had 41 points and former teammate Kevin Durant of Golden State had a triple-double of 21 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds in the highest-scoring game in league history. Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo led the eastern conference with 30 points. Lebron James had 23 points and Kyrie Irving scored 22 points and dished out 14 assists for the east.
Golf:
Dustin Johnson has earned himself the world’s No. 1 ranking in men’s golf by cruising to victory in the rain-delayed Genesis Open at Riviera Country Club. Johnson fired an even-par 71 for a 17-under total and a five-stroke win over Scott Brown and Thomas Pieters. Johnson led by as many as nine shots in the final round before became the 20th player to reach No. 1 since the world ranking began in 1986.
NASCAR:
Chase Elliott will be the Daytona 500 pole-sitter for the second straight year after edging Dale Earnhardt Jr. on the final lap of yesterday’s qualifying. Elliott and Earnhardt gave Hendrick Motorsports and Chevrolet a 1-2 front row for NASCAR’s season-opening race next Sunday. Elliott is the race’s first repeat pole-winner in 27 years.
