Girls Tennis: Fond du Lac went 2-0 at the Waukesha South Invite on Monday. The Cardinals defeated Waukesha South 5-2 and Cudahy 6-1.
The Hierl Insurance High School team(s) of the week are the St. Mary’s Springs and Winnebago Lutheran football teams. Both the Ledgers and Vikings had dominating performances in their victories in week one. For St. Mary’s Springs, Clay Schueffner and Zach Austin each scored a pair of TD’s in their 35-0 win over Markesan on Friday, while for WLA, Brennan Kulibert scored a pair of touchdowns in the VIkings’ 39-0 win over Kettle Moraine Lutheran. This week, Springs hosts Amherst at Fruth Field while WLA travels to Valders.

–The Brewers managed just four hits against Giants starter Chris Sratton in their game one loss in San Francisco Monday night. An RBI double from Brandon Crawford in the 4th inning put the Giants in front and the combo of Stratton, who tossed six innings of shutout baseball, and the San Fran bullpen kept the Brewers off the board the rest of the way. Zach Davies took the loss for Milwaukee, allowing two runs – both unearned – on six hits in six innings of work. Game two of the series is tonight, Jimmy Nelson gets the start for Milwaukee while the Giants counter with Jeff Samardzija. Coverage begins at 8:40 pm, first pitch at 9:15 on KFIZ.

The Wisconsin Badgers debut at number nine in the first Associated Press top 25 of the season that came out Monday. The Badgers, who finished 11-3 last year ended last season ranked at number nine as well. Alabama holds the number one spot overall, Ohio State is number two, Florida State three, USC four and Clemson at five. Penn State is ranked sixth, Oklahoma seventh, Washington eighth, the Badgers in ninth and Oklahoma State 10th. Michigan is the only other Big Ten team in the top 25, the Wolverines are ranked 11th.
