Strong winds and heavy rains sweep through county

While no weather warnings were issued for Fond du Lac County Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the western portion of the county did see some isolated severe winds as a line of storms came through.

At around 6:20 PM, the line of storms created a bow like appearance as it entered the western part of the county, which is often associated with stronger winds. Shortly after, reports of trees down on wires or blocking roads started coming in to the Fond du Lac County Communications Center in the Ripon and Brandon area.

A listener shared a brief video with KFIZ from the Brandon area which showed likely severe winds blowing rain in that area. As the storms progressed east, the high winds stopped, but heavy rains then became the problem. About an inch and a quarter fell in the Fond du Lac area which caused some local ponding of water in low areas and on roadways.

This ponding was likely a contributing factor in causing a semi to leave I-41 and jackknife into the median near Main Street. This crash occurred just before 9 PM, and while one southbound lane was left open, the southbound side of the highway needed to be closed when a local wrecker came to remove the semi. The highway was reopened shortly after 10:30 PM.
