Treffert Center Hosting Sensory Aspects Of Trauma Training

The Treffert Center, a service of Agnesian HealthCare, is continuing its education of local healthcare providers through a new session, “Trauma Informed Approach to Sensory Processing Disorders and Arousal Regulation.”

The session is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 18 in the Agnesian HealthCare Plaza Level Conference Center, 430 E. Division Street in Fond du Lac.  The cost is $250.

This hands-on seminar will feature Sheila Frick, OTR/L, an occupational therapist and founder of Vital Links. Vital Links offers practical, theory-oriented treatment tools that improve sensory processing, regulation and motor functions in clinic, home, and school environments and can effectively be utilized by therapists across multiple areas of clinical practice.

Since 1980, Frick has been an international clinician, lecturer and pioneer in occupational therapy. She has well over 30 years of clinical experience, having worked in psychiatry, rehabilitation and home health before specializing in pediatrics. Frick’s expertise includes sensory processing dysfunction, sensory integration, and auditory interventions.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with seminars at 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Lunch is at noon.

This is the second free session that the Treffert Center has offered to assist clinicians in helping those who have experienced trauma in their lives. Previously, 30 community providers were trained in the trauma specific treatment approach – Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

“Due to the significant relationship between trauma and sensory issues, further training is needed to help clinicians develop skills in recognizing and processing the sensory aspects of trauma,” according to Matt Doll, PhD, director of Agnesian HealthCare’s Behavioral Health Services/Autism. “Sheila will share the connections between sensory processing/sensory integrative difficulties and developmental trauma. This workshop is recommended for physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, social workers and psychotherapists.”

Continuing education credits will be available.
