Waupun man injured in hunting accident

On Thursday, October 30, 2025, at approximately 3:44 p.m., the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Communication Center received a 911 call from a family member of a deer hunter. The caller reported that the hunter had regained consciousness on the ground with facial injuries and believed he had fallen from his tree stand. The family member provided a general location of a Department of Natural Resources (DNR) public hunting area on Towne Road, north of Highway 151, in the Town of Oakfield.

The Communication Center was eventually able to establish direct contact with the injured hunter, which was crucial in providing his exact location for responding units.

Due to the nature of the incident and the unknown extent of injuries, a medical helicopter was initially requested to respond. Deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office located the hunter at the scene of the fall. Shortly after, members of the Lifestar Ambulance arrived and assessed the patient, ultimately determining that the ThedaStar medical helicopter was not needed.

The Oakfield Fire Department utilized a UTV to transport the hunter out of the DNR property to the parking area. He would later be transported by Lifestar Ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment of what appeared to be minor injuries.

The hunter, a 44-year-old Waupun man, was not wearing a tree stand safety harness at the time of the fall and it is believed the fall was approximately 12-14 feet.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by, Oakfield Fire Department and Lifestar Ambulance Service.
