Wet snowy roads cause problems for area drivers

A sample of the snow to come later today was felt yesterday, Monday, April 1, 2024, as about a half inch of wet snow fell in the afternoon causing multiple crashes in the area. None of the crashes were known to have caused serious injuries but some did tie up traffic. The most significant closed Highway 26 between Rosendale and the Winnebago County line for just over an hour after a car left the roadway, striking a power pole.

As a result of the impact, a wire hung low over the roadway causing fire officials to close the highway until Alliant Energy was able to respond to fix it. The crash occurred around 5:45 and the highway was reopened shortly after 7.

A person involved in a crash in Calumet County needed medical attention after getting glass in their mouth as a result of a broken window. This crash happened on State Highway 151 just west of County Highway C. Town of Calumet First Responders responded for the patient and Town of Calumet Fire Department responded for a wire that was also knocked down in that crash.

And in Winnebago County, numerous crashes and run offs were reported in the Oshkosh area on I-41.
