Woodchuck Shooting Draws Heavy Police Response, Fine For Shooter

CAMPBELLSPORT – Officers with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department as well as Campbellsport Police Department responded to the Village of Campbellsport around 4:30 PM Thursday, August 18, 2022 after receiving a report of a woman shooting a gun on the west side of the village.

A witness said the woman had gone into a residence and police started setting up a perimeter around the house. While units were setting up, the woman came out of the house holding a BB gun rifle.

The Campbellsport officer made contact with the woman, and according to the officer, she had been trying to shoot a woodchuck that was under an outbuilding on her fathers property.

The woman had admitted to first using a 9 mm hand gun, but decided to switch to the BB gun rifle.

The woman was given a citation for $439 for firing a gun inside the village limits.

It is not immediately known if the woodchuck survived the incident.
