Barn destroyed in overnight blaze

Fire departments in Fond du Lac County are cleaning up after a barn fire brought many of them into service overnight.

Just after 1 AM, Saturday, August 3, 2024, The Fond du Lac County Communications Center received a 911 call from a resident, reporting that a barn containing hay was on fire at W7950 W Lone Elm Rd.

Deputies from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the property along with The Eldorado, Van Dyne, Lamartine and North Fond du Lac Fire Departments. It was reported that a nearby second barn was also catching fire. When emergency personnel arrived on scene, one barn was fully engulfed, a second barn was on fire and the feed in two adjoining silos had also caught on fire.

Due to the size and severity of the fire, a call for mutual aid went out to bring in members from 10 other area fire departments.

The 80’ x 100’ barn is a total loss and the nearby 20’x 40’ barn sustained damage. Damage to the home was limited to the siding and all cattle housed on the property are accounted for.
