Fatal Fire Near Markesan

Green Lake County Sheriff’s officials say a person died in a house fire just northeast of the City of Markesan early Friday morning. When deputies arrived at the home at N2828 State Highway 44 at 4:15 a.m. the home was fully engulfed. The Markesan Fire Department put the fire out. During the beginning stages of the fire investigation, human remains were found. They have not been positively identified. The State Fire Marshal’s Office, Markesan Fire Services, the Green Lake County Coroner and Sheriff’s Office are investigating the fire. The cause and origin of the blaze are being determined.  The fire was reported to the Sheriff’s E911 Communication Center shortly after 4 a.m.
