FDL County Health Department Says Perfect Time For Radon Testing
January is Radon Action Month, and The Fond du Lac
County Health Department is reminding residents it’s a great time to take action and test homes for the presence of radon gas.
Radon is an invisible,
odorless, tasteless gas, which can enter your home through cracks in the
foundation, openings around joints and pipes, and dirty floors. High levels of Radon
can build up inside your home and long-term exposure to these high levels of radon
is a risk for lung cancer. According to the Surgeon General, exposure to radon
is the second leading cause of lung cancer, right behind cigarette smoke. The
only way to know if you have safe levels of radon inside your home is to test
your home.
Throughout the month of January, short-term radon test kits will be
available for $5. This fee includes radon information and lab fees. To obtain a
test kit, residents may visit the Health Department at
Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Test kits will also be
available at your local city/town clerk. For more information or questions on
radon, please contact the Fond du Lac County Health Department at 920-929-3085
